The Concert Event is a live album and concert film by Greek composer Yanni, recorded at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on November 6, 2004, and released in August 2006 through Image Entertainment. The performance captures an eclectic, cinematic fusion of world, new age, and mainstream contemporary pop styles, drawing primarily from Yanni's catalog spanning the 1980s through his 2003 album Ethnicity. The 65-minute set features thirteen tracks, including signature pieces like "Rainmaker," "Keys to Imagination," "On Sacred Ground," "Playtime," and "For All Seasons," alongside "The Storm," a piece based on Vivaldi's 18th-century violin concerto "Summer" from The Four Seasons. A notable distinction of this concert is its departure from Yanni's earlier large-scale productions. The orchestra is smaller than those featured in his celebrated Acropolis and Forbidden City performances, functioning as a chamber ensemble without a designated leader. The musical focus shifts toward electronic textures and bass elements, with instruments such as the hammered dulcimer, jazz trumpet, and harp playing prominent roles. The harp, in particular, is used far more dominantly than in previous Yanni videos. The DVD version includes special features such as extensive behind-the-scenes bonus footage of performances and candid interviews, offering viewers a backstage all-access perspective on the production. The concert is widely recognized for the exceptional musicianship of its ensemble. Armenian violinist Samvel Yervinyan delivers standout performances, ranging from a super-fast duo inspired by Vivaldi's Four Seasons to soft Middle Eastern solos that evoke a profound sense of love and passion. His tonality, akin to Iranian music, brought a distinctive West Asian flavor to the global stage. Other notable performers include drummer Charlie Adams, keyboardist Ming Freeman, and Paraguayan harpist Víctor Espínola, whose unconventional harp playing drew particular praise from audiences. Vocalists Alfreda Gerald and Michelle Amato also contribute to the performance. The album achieved commercial success, peaking at No. 1 on Billboard's Top New Age Albums chart, No. 6 on the Top Independent Albums chart, and No. 84 on the Billboard 200. Critical reception was generally positive, with AllMusic's Richie Unterberger describing it as delivering exactly what one would expect from a live Yanni album: an eclectic, cinematic fusion that spans decades of his work.
